The mandapam is situated got its name Pooja pura after the construction of Saraswathi Mandapam which was meant to be used for poojas during the Navarathri festival. This mandapam was constructed by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma Maharaja, who ruled the kingdom from 1829 to 1847.
